About me

About me

Yves Pierre Clement is a French / American painter who grew up in Montreuil, France. He lived in Atlanta, Georgia from 1997-2002, and currently resides between Paris and Basel ( CH ).

His first works were figurative in nature, influenced by ‘Outsider’ art, which he discovered while living in the South (USA). He has also been heavily influenced by mythological and cultural representations that fed his imagination in the course of his travels and studies spanning Asia, Africa and the Americas.

It was just after returning to Europe in 2002 that he immersed himself in the world of art and creative expression. In 2005, he held his first show with 30 works in Antwerp, Belgium. The paintings took on an abstract tone and were realized on a variety of found and recycled objects such as National Geographic insert maps and Kraft paper bags.

It’s the recycled materials themselves that incited Yves to explore the transparency of their surface.  Using bubble wrap, metal grills and roadside found objects, Yves stamped impressions on the supports before layering atop with illuminating colors and patterns to create pixelization and depth - which at times resemble the complex patterns found in ethnic textiles and tribal ornamentation.

Yves’s method has continued to develop over the years and could best be interpreted as a primitive form of graphic design or digitization, but in reality it’s his own means of bringing his paintings to life and creating a style all his own.

His paintings employ a pleasing mix of earthen colors and patterns that tantalize the eyes and evoke other-worldly features from different geographies and cultures in a modern and unique way.

Yves has now been painting for almost 10 years and has showed his works in cafes and galleries in and around Paris for the past seven. Below is a short-list of his exhibitions and shows:
